KOLKATA: Unseeded Shivani Manjanna of India created a big upset downing second seed Lee Kuan Yi of Chinese Taipei in the girls’ first round of the DKS ITF junior tennis here on Tuesday.
Manjanna, who made it to the main draw working her way up through the qualifiers, played the right game on the red-clay courts here to see off her much higher-ranked opponent 7-5, 7-5.
In another upset, Lasya Patnaik of India beat the fifth-seeded Yasmina Karimjanova of Uzbekistan 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
All the seeded players held their own in the boys’ section before moving into the next round.
