Easy for Karthik

Sai Karthik toyed with the temperamental Dmitriy Borodkin of Kazakhstan as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 victory in the boys' second round of the Asian junior tennis championship here on Wednesday.

The fourth-seeded Karthik, a talented striker of the ball who eases into his strokes with delightful balance, could have finished the match a lot earlier but for losing his focus and dropping a couple of games. Yet, Karthik sounded assured about his game and his ability to tackle Chi-Shan Jao of Chinese Taipei on the morrow.

Rishabhdev Raman, Rakshay Thakkar, Sumeet Shinde, Vaidik Munshaw, Saurabh Singh, Mansingh Athare, Shahbaaz Khan, Siddharth Rawat and the best Indian lad among the current crop, Ronit Bisht, were the other Indians to make the pre-quarterfinals.

In the girls' section, the seventh-seeded Rishika Sunkara, outclassed Abhilasha Ahuja. She will have the onerous task of matching wits against Yang Zhaoxuan of China.
