Brazil team keeps its spirits high

Beginning its acclimatisation to the city with a game of improvised Sepak Takraw on the tennis court, Brazil's Davis Cup team appeared to have kept its spirits high, despite the sapping experience of a long-haul flight.

“The conditions here are similar to those in New York, where we were for the U.S. Open. It's hot and humid. Many places in Brazil too have similar weather, so it's not such a big deal,” said Joao Zwetsch, coach of Thomaz Bellucci and non-playing captain of the Latin American country's Davis Cup squad.

“One should be careful not to practise too much in such weather and drain oneself. India has the home advantage. Somdev is a great fighter and Bopanna has a dangerous serve. Of course, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are one of the foremost doubles pairs in the world. It's not going to be easy, but we have a definite plan and will take our chances,” he said.

The playing members of Brazil's team include Bellucci, Ricardo Mello (singles), Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo (doubles).
