It’s going to be an exciting month ahead as the 132nd edition of the Udhagamandalam racing season begins at the Race Course here on Saturday.
503 horses would get going in 10 race meetings that culminates on June 14. Twenty three trainers, including five from outstation, and 50 jockeys will be part of the season.
The Nilgiris 1000 Guineas Grade III (May 18), Nilgiris 2000 Guineas Grade II (May 22) and Nilgiris Derby Stakes Grade 1 (June 3) are the three big events of the season.
To provide quality racing and add a bit of glamour, the stewards have framed one sweepstakes race over a distance of 1600m carrying an added money of ₹10 lakh to the Nilgiris Gold Cup to be run on June 10.
All the race meetings will be held during the day.
