Sergio Perez will remain in hospital at least until Monday in the wake of his crash in qualifying for the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix.

The Mexican Perez, 21, suffered a concussion and a sprained thigh when his Sauber slammed sideways into a soft crash barrier after losing control ahead of the chicane in qualifying Saturday.

The Sauber team said Sunday that doctors wanted to keep him in hospital another night for observation and for another round of examinations on Monday.

While being sidelined for Sunday’s race, Perez said via social network Twitter that he aimed to be racing again at the next Grand Prix in Canada on June 12.
