Zoravar Singh Sandhu recaptured old magic to bag the trap gold, five points ahead of former Asian champion Anwer Sultan and World champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu in the National shotgun championship at the Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Zoravar, who had last won the national title in Chennai, was solid in the final as he shot 24 out of 25, to walk away with the gold.
Anwer Sultan who was the only Indian shooter to qualify for the Sydney Olympics in 2000 won the tie-shoot against Manavjit 1-0 for the silver medal.
It was an impressive fare by Zorawar as he shot steady rounds of 23 and 24 throughout the two day competition, and capitalised on his chances when he was joint leader with Anwer on 116.
Manavjit Sandhu was going solid till he missed the 18th bird in the final. Anirudh, who was one point behind the leaders following five rounds of 23, could have also tied for the silver, but for missing the last bird.
Equally Anwer could have avoided the tie-shoot but for missing the last bird.
Mansher Singh spoilt his chances with a 20 in the last round, and a round of 17 in the final brought him down to the sixth spot with a total of 129, two points behind Prithviraj Thondaiman.
