Suhl (Germany): Youth Olympics finalist Yashaswini Singh Deswal asserted her class by winning the air pistol gold equalling the World record at the junior World shooting championship here on Monday.
The 20-year-old Yashaswini qualified on top with a score of 585, and equalled the World record of 235.9 in the 24-shot final to beat Kim Woori of Korea by 4.1 points.
Yashaswini had finished sixth in the Youth Olympics in Nanjing in 2014. She had given a hint of her bright form this season when she shot 381 in the World Cup in Munich. She had shot a career-best 387 and missed a medal in the Asian championship in Delhi in 2015.
She had won a junior World Cup silver here last year.
It was the second gold for the Indian team, following the 25-metre standard pistol gold in the men’s event on the opening day by Anish Bhanwala.
In the 25-metre rapid fire pistol, Anish (573) missed the final by two points, but along with Anhad Jawanda (570) and Shivam Shukla (568) clinched the team bronze three points ahead of the Czech Republic and behind Ukraine and China.
