Who is Shreyasi Singh?

On Wednesday, shooter Shreyasi Singh won her most prestigious medal till date, claiming the gold in the Women's Double Trap event at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, 2018. She bettered her performance at the same event in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where she claimed silver.

Shreyasi shot 96 in the finals in Gold Coast, and beat Australia’s Emma Cox two shots to one in the shoot-off.

The 26-year-old from Delhi comes from a shooting background. Her late father Digvijay Singh, a former Member of Parliament from Bihar, and grandfather Kumar Surendra Singh, both served as presidents of the National Rifle Association of India.

She competed in the singles and pair trap events at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, finishing sixth and fifth respectively. In the same year, she claimed silver in the Commonwealth Championship in Delhi.

She won gold in the women's trap event in the National Shooting Championships in 2012. She finished 15th in the 2013 Trap Shooting World Cup in Mexico.

The year 2014 was a good year for her, when she claimed medals at two major events. In the Incheon Asian Games, she won bronze in the Women's Double Trap team event, alongside Shagun Chowdhary and Varsha Varman. At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, she scored 92 points to finish second place.

Prior to the 2018 Games, she claimed silver at the 2017 Commonwealth Championships in Brisbane.
