Three Indians among leaders

Diptayan Ghosh (under-14), Aravindh Chithambaram and M. Karthikeyan (both under-12) continued to be among the leaders with five points each while six other Indians were joint second in their respective categories after the sixth round of the World Youth chess championship at Caldas Novas, Brazil, on Wednesday.

V.S. Rathanvel, Rakesh Kumar Jena (boys' under-10), B. N. Akshaya (girls' under-8), B. Prathima (girls' under-10), G.K. Monnisha and Srija Seshadari (both girls' under-14) shared the second spot.

Three more rounds remain in the premier competition that concludes on Saturday.

Open: Under-18: G.A. Stany (4.5) bt Alexandru Ovidiu Stanciu (Rom, 3.5); Zaur Mammadov (Aze, 4.5) drew with Debashis Das (4.5); Hibiki Sakai (Jap, 2.5) lost to Himal Gusain (3.5).

Under-16: Denis Kadric (BIH, 4) drew with Antonio Viani D'Cunha (4); Nikita Gusev (Can, 3) lost to Shiven Khosla (4); Sarang Ponkshe (2.5) drew with Bryan Moncada (Ecu, 2.5).

Under-14: Diptayan Ghosh (5) drew with Matthias Bluebaum (Ger, 5); Girish Koushik (4.5) bt Arsen Kukhmazov (Rus, 4); Ricardo Velasco Ricardo (Ven, 3) drew with M. Satvik (3).

Under-12: Benjamin Gledura (Hun, 5) drew with M. Karthikeyan (5); Jeffrey Xiong (USA, 4.5) drew with Hetul Shah (4.5); Abhimanyu Puranik (4) lost to Aravindh Chithambaram (5); Nicolas Porta (Arg, 4) bt Harshal Shahi (3).
