They spin and smash their way to victory

With the ping-pong ball oscillating rapidly between the two ends of the table, eyes were kept busy during the State-ranking table tennis tournament, which concluded here on Sunday.

The two day tournament, which was jointly organised by the Tiruchi District Table Tennis Association (TDTTA) and BHEL Community Centre, was inaugurated by P. Nainar, General Manager (Human Resource), BHEL, Tiruchi, on Saturday.

More than 350 paddlers from various parts of the State took part in the tourney, which was conducted for boys and girls in the youth, junior, sub-junior and cadet categories and for men and women.

“Fifty-five players from Tiruchi participated in the tournament in various categories and it is good to see such high participation,” observed P. Ponnurathinam, president, TDTTA.

K. Balamurugan, Regional Passport Officer, Tiruchi, gave away the prizes in the presence of R. Ananthakumar, secretary, BHEL Community Centre; M. Karuppiah, managing director, Hotel Shaans; T.K. Vijayarangam, treasurer, Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association; J. Selvakumar, joint-secretary; R. Jayaraman, secretary, TDTTA; V. Thangarajhaan and S. Kumaran, joint-secretaries.
