Asian Games gold medallist and two-time World Cup Final champion Ronjan Sodhi emphasised the preparedness of the Indian shooters and stressed that there were no room for excuses, particularly in terms of the inclement London weather during the Olympics.

In a release issued by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) from London, Ronjan was quoted as saying that it would be a level-playing field, and the challenge was to perform under tough weather conditions as well.

The double trap marksman, Ronjan said that everything would boil down to the performance on the day.

“You may be the greatest shooter of all time but you need a bit of luck on a particular day,” said Ronjan.

Expressing his happiness about the range, Ronjan said he had got over the initial excitement of being at the Games Village and added that he was enjoying his stay there.

No meaning

Though he had shot a world record of 147 twice, which has since been bettered, Ronjan pointed that “the records have no meaning on a particular day when you are gunning for a medal.” Though he mentioned the names of Peter Wilson of Britain and Joshua Richmond of the US, Ronjan insisted that all the 22 shooters in the fray in double trap had a chance to strike gold.

Ronjan hoped that the Indian shooters would attempt to ride on the momentum of the silver medal of Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in Athens and the gold of Abhinav Bindra in Beijing.
