Swiss Open Grand Prix: Pawar crashes out

Anand Pawar crashed out of the $125,000 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold losing his men’s singles third round 14-21, 21-12, 21-12 to Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou here on Thursday.

Despite a dominating performance in the first game, the Indian went on to lose the next two games tamely to the sixth seed.

On Wednesday, Pawar had made it to the third round defeating German Tobias Wadenka 21-11, 21-4 in 24 minutes.

Also advancing were P. Kashyap and Saina Nehwal. Kashyap, seeded third, took 33 minutes to dispose of Lukas Schmidt of Germany 21-15, 21-14. Saina opened her campaign with a 21-12, 21-12 win over Chisato Hoshi of Japan.

The results:

Men’s singles: Third round: Anand Pawar lost to Tien Chen Chou 14-21, 21-12, 21-12.

Second round: Pawar bt Tobias Wadenka 21-11, 21-4; P. Kashyap bt Lukas Schmidt 21-15, 21-14.

Women’s singles: First round: Saina Nehwal bt Chisato Hoshi 21-12, 21-12.

Mixed doubles: Tarun Kona & Ashwini Ponnappa lost to Robert Mateusiak & Agnieszka Wojtkowska 21-10, 16-21, 21-13.
