World Championship silver medallist Jitu Rai missed the free pistol final by one point in the 48th Grand Prix of Liberation international shooting competition on Saturday.
Jitu Rai shot 555 for the ninth place, and another Olympian Prakash Nanjappa shot 552 for the 11th place. Amanpreet Singh was placed 15th with 551.
In women’s air rifle, World Cup medallist and Asian champion Pooja Ghatkar missed a medal by 0.1 point. Anjum Moudgil followed her in the fifth place.
Olympian Chain Singh placed seventh in men’s rifle 3-position, after having shot an impressive 1175 in the qualification phase. Young Swapnil Kusale shot 1170 for the 14th spot.
In women’s sports pistol, Annu Raj Singh shot 578 and missed the final on the basis of one lesser inner-10 as compared to Steffanie Thurmann of Germany on the same score. Anna Korakaki of Greece shot an intimidating 594, equivalent to the 23-year-old world record, in
topping qualification but had to settle for the bronze behind the Germans Monika Karsch and Michelle Skeries. Incidentally, Monika matched Anna Korakaki’s final world record of 39 in clinching the gold.
