Giving one’s best in every competition is often viewed as a cliche in the world of sports, but for the 17-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary, it is an honest routine.

Otherwise, it is hard to explain the manner in which he keeps beating his own World record, in air pistol as he did during the seventh National shooting selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad on Saturday.

Qualifying with an impressive 587, six points better than the next best, Saurabh shot 246.8 in the final, to beat his World record by 0.5 point.

In women’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event, Anjum Moudgil asserted her class by shooting 456.0 and beating Kajal Saini by 4.3 points. Anjum had shot 1170 in qualification, five more than Sunidhi Chauhan.
