A.V. Saravanan and Pradeep Rajaram tallied 48 points for the top spot in the nett category (0-15) of the Eastman Trophy golf tournament at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club course in Chettipalayam here recently.

It was not an easy route to the top for the duo. They faced a quiet challenge in the form of Nikhil Sunil and Joseph Chakola combination. The latter, fresh from his win in the Sri K. Rajagopal Sastiapthapoorthy Trophy tournament last week, played a good round of golf when it mattered most. So did his partner Sunil. But Saravanan and Pradeep showed fine understanding all the way through for the title. The tournament, which was played under the scramble 40 per cent Combined Handicap, Stableford and Choose your own partner format, attracted a record participation of 112 entries.

The results: Nett: Category 0-15: 1. A.V. Saravanan & Pradeep Rajaram 48 pts; 2. Nikhil Sunil & Joseph Chakola 47. 16-30: 1. Ashwin Chandran & Prashanth Chandran 51; 2. G. Premanand & V. Manoharan 49.

Gross: 0-30: S. Pradeep Raj & Meiyappan Ramaswamy 37pts (better second half scores); 2. R. Gopinath & A.L. Gandeepan 37.
