The 3x3 Road to Mexico basketball tournament, featuring 12 national and international teams, will be staged at the Ambience Mall in Gurugram on September 16 and 17.

There will be three teams from Japan, and one each from Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

The six teams from Indian will be Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Indian Railways, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Services, Ludhiana Academy and Vijay Bank.

The champion team will get an all-paid trip to Mexico to compete in the FIBA World Tour international event scheduled on September 30 and October 1.

After its introduction in the Youth Olympics in 2010, the 3x3 format, played on a half court with a relatively smaller ball, has caught up the imagination of the world so much that it would be introduced as a medal event in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The 3x3 Pro basketball league is tentatively scheduled to be launched in the country next year.
