Clinches 25m centre fire pistol gold

Rajasthan’s Mahaveer Singh, with a total of 589 in two rounds, bagged the gold in the 25m centre fire pistol event of the 62nd National shooting championships at the Vattiyoorkavu National Games ranges on Thursday.

The Rajasthan shooter returned a card of 292 in precision and 297 in duelling to top the field ahead of Gurpreet Singh (Haryana) who had a 586. Adarsh Singh (Haryana), too, had a score of 586 but had to settle for the third spot on count-back.

In 25m standard pistol, it was Vijayveer Sidhu (Chandigarh) all the way as he won both the men’s and junior gold medals with a total of 575, one point clear of Anish Bhanwala (Har) and his teammate Mandeep Singh (570) in both.

The results: Men: 25m centre fire pistol: 1. Mahaveer Singh (Raj) 589, 2. Gurpreet Singh (Army) 586, 3. Adarsh Singh (Har) 586; Team: 1. Haryana 1736, 2. Navy 1724, 3. Punjab 1714.

Men: 25m standard pistol: 1. Vijayveer Sidhu (Chd) 575, 2. Anish Bhanwala (Har) 574, 3. Mandeep Singh (Har) 570; Team: 1. Haryana 1684, 2. Navy 1684, 3. Maharashtra 1677.

Juniors: 25m standard pistol: 1. Vijayveer Sidhu (Chd) 575, 2. Anish Bhanwala (Har) 574, 3. Mandeep Singh (Har) 570; Team: 1. Haryana 1707, 2. Punjab 1672, 3. Chandigarh 1668.
