Manika stays on course

The in-form India No. 1 Manika Batra stopped Yihan Zhou of Singapore 11-5, 11-5, 11-2, 6-11, 11-4 to storm into the women’s table tennis singles semifinals at the Carrara sports arena here on Thursday. However, Mouma Das fell, losing to another Singaporean Yu Mengyu 15-13, 11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5.

In men’s singles, A. Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai and G. Sathiyan are through to the quarterfinals to be played on Friday.

The results: Men: Singles (pre-quarterfinals): A. Sharath Kamal bt Heming Hu (Aus) 11-8, 12-10, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5; Harmeet Desai bt Chee Feng Leong (Mas) 11-5,11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 11-4; G. Sathiyan bt Segun Teriolo (Nig), 11-7 retd.
