India’s Laxman Rawat claimed the World 6 Red title, defeating former World snooker champion Muhammad Asif of Pakistan 6-5 here on Saturday.

Laxman took a 5-1 lead in the best-of-11 frames final, but Asif made a strong comeback with back-to-back frame victories to force the tie into the deciding frame.

In the last frame, though Asif needed only blue to secure victory, he missed it for a long pot and then a loose safety gave a slight chance to Laxman.

Laxman held his nerve and potted blue in center and then pink in the top pocket to land perfectly on black. Though the position was straight, he still took some more time and then potted the desired black to become the World champion.

In the women’s final, three-time World junior champion Wongharuthai Nutcharat of Thailand defeated India’s Amee Kamani 4-2 to lift the title.
