IOC not to take action against Kalmadi

The IOC says it will not take action against the disgraced president of India’s national Olympic committee.

The International Olympic Committee executive board on Tuesday discussed the situation of Suresh Kalmadi, who was jailed for nine months on corruption charges related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Kalmadi has stepped away from the day—to—day running of the Indian Olympic Association but has not relinquished the presidency. Vijay Kumar Malhotra is serving as acting president.

IOC vice president Thomas Bach says Kalmadi has effectively suspended himself and “in the end he’s not in charge.”

Bach says “the result is the same” so there is no need to impose sanctions against him or the IOA.
