Indians fare poorly in Asian meet

Indian athletes fared poorly in the Asian cross-country championships at Qingzhen, China on Saturday.

Suresh Kumar, at 11th in the men's 12km event, with 37:45 was the best Indian finisher. In the same event, Dangu Vishnulal (38:13) and Indrajeet Patel (38:48) came 15th and 18th.

In the women's 8km event, Monika Athare (29:33) came 13th while Priyanka Patel Singh (31:35) and Swati Gadhave (32:48) occupied the last two places.

Bahrain runners swept the medals in the senior section. Gebre Alemu Bekele (35:33), Regasa Mootumaa (35:39) and Gelasa Bilisuma Shuii (35:41) took the top three places in the men's 12km event.

In the women's senior race, Eshete Habtebegrel (26:14), Chalchissa Tejitu Daba (26:50) and Regasa Genzeb Shumi made another sweep for Bahrain.
