Former world record holder Heena Sidhu recovered from a slow start to shoot 382, but missed the women’s air pistol final by two points in the shooting World Cup that concluded here on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old had a series of 93, 96, 97 and 96, as she placed 18th among 103 shooters. Yashaswini Singh Deswal did well to shoot 381, but Harveen Srao slipped to 373.
The performance in the men’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event was below par, as Olympian Chain Singh shot 1163 for the 44th place, following a series of 386 in kneeling, 394 in prone and 383 in standing.
Satyendra Singh (1161) and Sanjeev Rajput (1148) were 57th and 69th respectively among the 70 who had made the cut after the elimination round. Surendra Singh Rathod had shot a day earlier in the MQS section and gathered an impressive score of 1173
The Indian team drew a blank in terms of medals for a second time this season in a World Cup, after having shot a gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the Delhi World Cup, apart from a gold in the shotgun World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico.
Of course, Jitu Rai and Ankur Mittal had accounted for four of those six medals including the two gold, while Amanpreet Singh and Pooja Ghatkar had won the silver and bronze respectively.
