Pankaj Advani was introduced to the audience not as the established player that he is, but as the honorary joint secretary of the Karnataka State Billiards Association (KSBA). The cue sports exponent is enjoying his dual role as player and administrator, even if it comes with a fair share of challenges.

“It’s good when players enter administration. You understand the difficulties faced from a player’s point of view, perhaps more so than others who have not played at the highest level,” Advani said, at the launch event of the Indian Oil Servo State-ranking billiards and snooker tournament here.

The 33-year-old explained that his priority is to represent the State and country. “While preparing for major championships, I inform my colleagues that I can’t devote much time as an administrator. In this regard, I have received a lot of support from KSBA,” Advani said.

On his plans for developing the game in the State, Advani said, “To develop the ladies and junior circuits is something that is close to my heart.

“We want to work with schools and colleges to get cue sports included as part of their curriculum. Apart from this, we intend to get new tables at KSBA. We are also working towards hosting a few big tournaments.”

On the green baize, the Bengalurean recently won the second leg of the Asian Snooker Tour in Jinan, China.

“ The new 10-red format is a success with the players. It is unlike 6-red snooker, where a bit of luck can change the tide of the match. In 10-red snooker, the better players will do well because there is more skill involved,” Advani said.

Advani next competes in the IBSF World billiards and snooker championship, which commences in Myanmar on Monday.
