Ganemat Sekhon, with the third best score of 72 (24, 25 and 23), was in seventh place in a field of 56 in women’s skeet on the opening day of the shotgun World Cup here on Thursday.
Diana Bacosi of Italy led with 74 out of 75, while two others had 73. Ganemat had tied with three others, including World and Olympic champion Kimberly Rhode of USA, who has been winning World Cup gold medals regularly.
Reigning National champion Maheshwari Chauhan’s rounds of 22, 21 and 23 placed her at 35, while former National champion Rashmmi Rahtore struggled to a 62 (21, 23 and 18).
Two more rounds on Friday will be followed by the final for the top six.
With only Rhode and Dankar Bartekova of Slovakia having won the Olympic quota among the top 15, apart from the fact that USA has won its maximum of two quota places, it will be a stiff fight for the Olympic berths.
