Chandhok steps down as FMSCI president

December 23, 2013 11:41 pm | Updated 11:41 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Vicky Chandhok chose not to stand for re-election as president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) during the National body’s annual general body meeting here on Monday.

“This was a difficult decision for me, but after being president for seven out of the last nine years, it is time to pass the baton on,” said Chandhok.

“Elections were conducted in the normal course of business.

“As per the High Court orders, all the ballot papers were duly sealed by Sportscraft’s Shrikant Karani and the chief executive officer of FMSCI Rajan Syal on Monday.

“The sealed envelope will be submitted to the honourable High Court on January 8, 2014.”

The Madras High Court had last week ordered FMSCI not to open the sealed envelope until January 8.

The High Court had sought time to analyse FMSCI’s vacate petition against an interim injection on the National body’s regulations that allows only non-profit clubs to be members of its Council.

Mumbai-based Sportscraft, a professional organisation, had obtained the interim injection on November 28.
