The Chennai Hockey Association (CHA) senior division league championship is back after a two-year hiatus.

The league will be held at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here from August 20 and the winner will receive the Rajaram Trophy. The league will take a short break for the all-India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup, to be conducted from Sept. 3.

Fourteeen teams, divided into two groups, are in the fray and the top two from each group will make it to the last-four stage. The winner will be richer by ₹80,000 while the runner-up will take home ₹60,000.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, CHA president V. Baskaran said his objective is to see Chennai players do well and take part in more all-India tournaments outside the state and also to “groom young officials”.

Chennai City Police will take on SAI in the inaugural match on Monday.

The groupings:

A: IOB, GST (Chennai), Indian Bank, Tamil Nadu Police, FCI, Indira Gandhi Memorial Club, ABM- Infotech.

B: Southern Railway, ICF, AG’s Office, SAI, Chennai City Police, Income Tax, Chennai Port Trust.
