Mansi Singh, the under-17 girls’ top seed from Uttar Pradesh, was felled by Uttarakhand’s Aditi Bhatt 21-18, 23-21 in the quarterfinals of the Yonex Sunrise sub-junior National badminton championships here on Friday.

The second seed Uthsava Palit of West Bengal bit the dust too, losing to Karnataka’s Janani Ananthakumar 21-14, 21-19.

This was the unseeded Janani’s third straight victory over a seeded player after having accounted for the 11th seed Meghana Reddy earlier on Friday morning.

“Beating the second seed was amazing,” said Janani.

“I am lost for words. My coach told me that seedings don’t mean anything. He just asked me to focus on my game.”

Meghana lost in the U-15 category too, where she was the second seed.

Karnataka’s Vijetha Harish sent the third seed Anupama Upadhyaya packing.
