The 18th Asian Games had got off to a colourful start on August 18, 2018, with the Indonesian President declaring open the multi-sport event.

Dushyant won India its first medal in rowing at the ongoing 18th Asian Games, claiming a bronze in men’s lightweight single sculls in Palembang. The Indian had won a bronze in the last edition of the Games, too, in Incheon.

Indian rowers Rohit and Bhagwan clocked 7:04.61 to win bronze in their event at the JSC Lake. Japan’s Miyaura Masayuki and Takeda Masahiro won the gold with a timing of 7:01.70 while Koreans Kim Byunghoon and Lee Minhyuk (7:03.22) bagged silver.

In men's singles tennis, Prajnesh Gunneswaran settled for bronze after losing the first semi-final.

Indian kabaddi men's team settled for bronze . India failed to reach men’s kabaddi final for first time after losing to Iran.

Indian tennis player Ankita Raina settled for a bronze medal at the Asian Games after losing to China’s Zhang Shuai in the women’s singles semifinal in Palembang. Ankita lost 4-6, 6-7 (6) in a gruelling contest that lasted a little over two hours.

All the four Indian wushu players l ost their semifinal bouts to settle for bronze medals but ensured that the country produced its best-ever performance in the Asian Games. Naorem Roshibini Devi, Santosh Kumar, Surya Bhanu Partap Singh and Narender Grewal gave the Indian team an unprecedented four medals.
