Aditya Mehta edged out Thailand’s Pongsakorn Chongjairak 60-39, 51-36, 28-41, 17-73, 17-55, 58-0, 40-32 in the ACBS Asian 10-red snooker tour third leg, at the KSBA here on Tuesday.
Aditya prevailed in a scrappy encounter, and recorded his third win in as many matches. Aditya made three potting errors in the deciding frame, but an equally error-prone Chongjairak was unable to capitalise.
The 33-year-old Aditya, who is forced to play with a more upright cueing stance to cope with a neck injury, finished on top of Group-D.
Chawla keeps winning
Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Wai whipped Kamal Chawla 43-13, 58-12, 51-40, 39-29 to record his fourth-straight win.
Manan Chandra impressed with a 96-break in his facile 47-29, 1-92, 48-01, 68-12, 96-1 victory over Iran’s Amir Sarkhosh.
Home favourite Pankaj Advani, meanwhile, slipped to a second defeat in four matches.
Advani ran Iran’s Ehsan Heydari Nezhad close, but the latter snatched a close 43-46, 65-0, 36-53, 45-0, 0-79, 48-9, 62-9 win.
Despite the two losses, Advani progressed to the last-16 round. Yogesh Kumar, who finished last among the five players in Group-A, did not make the cut.
Qatar’s Mohsen Bukshaisha, who lost all four of his Group-B outings, also exited. The other 16 players in the field progressed to the knockout round.
