The past few months have been good for ace Indian driver Gaurav Gill. He was first nominated for the prestigious Arjuna Award and later won the FMSCI-IRC’s Mahindra Adventure Rally of Maharashtra (co-driver Musa Sherif) at Nashik on June 14.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, Gill said his nomination for the Arjuna Award was a shot in the arm for motor sports in India. If he is conferred with the award, Gill will be the first from the sport.
“It’s good to know that I have been nominated for the award. It is recognition of my efforts over the years and also for the sport. We don’t get much exposure and this is a step in the right direction. It may also generate more interest in the sport in the country,” Gill said.
On his duels with Tidemand, Gill said: “He is good and talented. The main thing is Tidemand gets to do a lot of practice and take part in many races. In my case, it is difficult for me to log in more hours on car. The only time I get a car and race is during on-season.
“I have to be on my toes and give my best in every race to end up on the winning side.”
