Anu picks up 200m gold

Calicut University’s R. Anu jolted Anna’s South Asian junior champion S. Archana and won the women’s 200m gold in the 74th National inter-university athletics championship at the Punjabi University here on Saturday.

The host Punjabi retained the overall honours and the men’s team title while Kottayam’s Mahatma Gandhi University retained the women’s team title.

Punjabi’s Tejinderpal Singh was adjudged as the best male athlete while international Anilda Thomas (MGU) and National Open sprints champion Dutee Chand (KIIT, Bhubaneswar) shared the honour in the women’s section.

The results (winners only): Men: 200m: Anuroop John (Mahatma Gandhi, Kottayam) 22.21s. 1500m: Manjeet Singh (Punjabi, Patiala) 3:59.39s. 110m hurdles: R. Sudarsan (Anna, Chennai) 14.73s. 4x100m relay: Punjabi (Akashdeep Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Kulbir Singh, Gurlal Singh) 41.84s. 4x400m relay: Maharshi Dayanand, Rohtak (Akash, Arjun, Sandeep Lathwal, Sumit Malik) 3:15.70s. Half marathon: Borase Datta (Pune) 1:08.33s.

Women: 200m: R. Anu (Calicut) 25.12s. 1500m: Sakshi (Maharshi Dayanand, Rohtak) 4:33.24s. 100m hurdles: P. Deepika (Madras) 15.12s. 4x100m: Mahatma Gandhi, Kottayam (K. Manju, Agnes Sebastian, Sini Alex, Rintu Mathew) 48.94s. 4x400m: Mahatma Gandhi, Kottayam (Nimisha Jayaprakash, K. Sinsha, P.M. Arunima, C.S. Sindhyamol) 3:47.87s. Half marathon: Rohini Raut (RTM Nagpur) 1:19.42s.
