Angad bests Mairaj for skeet gold

Gurnihal wins junior title

Young Angad Vir Singh Bajwa beat Olympian and World Cup silver medallist Mairaj Ahmad Khan 8-7 in the shoot-off, after the two were tied on 55, in the men’s skeet final of the 62nd National shotgun championship on Friday.

The 23-year-old Angad, who had shot a world record 60 out of 60 while winning the Asian Championship, had a qualification score of 119 as against the top score of 122 by Mairaj. Former National champion Amrinder Singh Cheema bagged bronze.

In the junior section, Gurnihal Singh Garcha won, beating Abhay Singh Sekhon 56-55 in the final.

Karn Vikram Singh took bronze.

Juniors: 1. Gurnihal Singh Garcha 56 (113), 2. Abhay Singh Sekhon 55 (115), 3. Karn Vikram Singh 39 (111).

Veterans: 1. Gusti Noria 110, 2. Rajagopal Tondaiman 109, 3. DP Savya Sachi 104 .
