An appeal from CSI

Clean Sports India has appealed to shuttlers Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu to reconsider their stance on accreditation for their parents. This is in light of the fact that gymnasts Meghana Reddy and Aruna Reddy will have to do without the services of their coaches as they have not been included in the list of accredited officials.

Ashwini Nachappa, president CSI, and B.V. Papa Rao, Advisor to the Telangana Government — which incidentally offered to pay for the travel expenses of the coach — in a statement here on Wednesday said, “This accreditation is crucial as having a coach is paramount to a player’s performance in the competition. There is a huge psychological disadvantage for a player when the coach is not with them at such an important international event.

“What is beyond comprehension is why IOA would provide accreditation to the parents of Sindhu and Saina and not to the coaches, who deserve it legitimately,” they said.

“We at Clean Sports India appeal to the IOA to reconsider and provide the coaches of the two gymnasts immediately with accreditation.”

“We also appeal to Sindhu and Saina to reconsider their need to have their parents given accreditation and for them to request IOA to, instead, give it to the coaches of the gymnasts.”
