Top amateur women golfers for BPGC Open

The country’s leading amateur women golfers will be seen in action at the 1st BPGC Open Golf Tournament, a three-day event over 54 holes, to be played at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club from January 4-6, 2011.

Sponsored by BPCL, HPCL and IOCL, this event is a categorised event of the Indian Golf Union, with participants divided into three divisions –Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Gold Division players (handicap of 0-12) will be playing for the Mahindra Trophy, the Silver Division golfers (handicap 12-24) for the Bunty Khanna Trophy and Bronze Division golfers (24-36) for the Asha Shah Trophy.

Fifty-five golfers are in the fray, among the Gold Division competitors on the Merit List are Nanki Chaddha (Delhi), Amrita Saran (Delhi), Tavleen Batra (Chandigarh), Jaipreet Guman (Chandigarh), Nikita Arjun (Bangalore), Pauline Singh (Chandigarh) and Mumbai’s Rani Maheshwari.

Local golfers Preeti Sodhi, Bunty Khanna and Baby Malkhani will also pose a strong challenge in the Silver Division. Pune’s Shabana P, nine years, is the youngest golfer and the oldest to tee off will be 79-year-old Lolly Kamat of Mumbai, both figuring in the Bronze Division. Host club BPGC is providing lodging and boarding for all outstation players.
