Suresh Babu passes away

Olympian Suresh Babu passed away on Saturday at the Ranchi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here.

The 58-year-old, who was the chef-de-mission for the Kerala State team in the ongoing Jharkhand National Games, had fainted at the Games Village on Friday evening, but told those around him there was “nothing to worry.”

Suresh Babu was admitted to the hospital around 10 a.m. after he vomited blood. He was declared dead by the doctors at 1.55 p.m. “He was critically ill last night, and was put in the intensive care unit. He had a chronic liver disease. Suddenly, he had a rapid fall in blood pressure,” said Dr. D.K. Jha, Consultant Physician, RIMS.

Later, speaking to reporters, R.K. Anand, President, Jharkhand Olympic Association said, “After hearing the news, we rushed him to RIMS.

“He was taken there in a clinically dead condition. He was put on ventilator. Doctors tried their best and put him on life support.”

A chartered flight is being arranged by the local organisers here to take his mortal remains to his home in Kerala.
