The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has let off L. Sarita Devi with a stern warning after the boxer unconditionally apologised for her conduct at the medal distribution ceremony of the Asian Games.

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) on Friday shared the contents of a letter from the Director of Asian Games Department and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Haider A. Farman, to AIBA Technical Delegate David B. Francis.

The working committee accepted the boxer’s unconditional apology and understood the circumstances in which the incident took place. However, it issued a stern warning against disrespect to the medal and fellow competitors.

AIBA said Sarita ‘apologised for her improper behaviour’ and India’s chef-de-mission Adille Sumariwalla had forwarded the boxer’s letter to AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu.

Sumariwalla said the incident was not a planned effort from Sarita, who refused to receive her bronze medal in protest against the judges’ surprising decision in favour of her Korean opponent Jina Park in a 60kg semifinal bout.
