Khushbir Kaur, who won a historic women’s race walking silver at the 17th Asian Games is set for big things, feels national coach Alexander Artsybashev.
“We have to look at Rio now, prepare for it,” said the Russian here on Sunday night.
“Khushbir is very young, just two years above the junior age, so the experience she gains now is very important. She has a good tactical brain,” he said about the young girl who breaks the national record almost every time she walks in major meets.
There is a lot of strategy involved in race walking.
Tactics and experience“Race walking is all about tactics, experience and intellect,” said Alexander. “Khushbir is very smart that way, she has a man’s brain in a girl’s head.”
With dope testing becoming stricter, he feels walkers from India now have a good chance of winning medals in international meets.
“Now, half the Russian team has been disqualified because of doping. It’s a big scam.
“There is a lot of blood doping, manipulation happening now, many are into it. That is why countries which are strong in race walking earlier, are now coming down.”
That should be good news for the Indians.
