India seals semifinal berth

Indian girls sealed their place in the semifinals of the Asian youth netball championship by expectedly beating Hong Kong 61-40 at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex here on Monday.

This was India’s second victory in three matches. Having beaten Thailand on the opening day, India is now sure of joining Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka in the last-four stage.

Earlier, in what was seen as a virtual full-dress rehearsal of the final, defending champion Malaysia defeated nearest contender Singapore 51-41 for its third straight victory. Sri Lanka defeated Thailand 67-39 to firm up its place in the semifinal.

The results (round-robin league): India bt Hong Kong 61-40; Malaysia bt Singapore 51-41; Sri Lanka bt Thailand 67-39.
