Badminton Association of India (BAI) in its meeting held recently has directed the players to wear their respective State colours, instead of Indian, while taking part in any National event.
However, the players, as per the BAI rule, can exhibit the 10cm sponsor name in one line in front of their t-shirt.
Speaking to The Hindu here on Monday, BAI joint secretary K. h. Punnaiah Choudary said that the association has introduced the rule as it had became a practice among the shuttlers to wear Indian t-shirts, thus making it difficult for the spectators to follow the event.
“Media persons are also finding it difficult as they are placed at quite a distance,” he added.
He said the doubles pair should wear the same colour outfit throughout the tournament.
Mr. Choudary said the wildcard entries for the Nationals have been reduced both in singles and doubles. “Instead of eight, four will be given entry in singles and in doubles two, instead of four, will be given the wildcard. The doubles pair should not be below the fourth rank. These rules will be implemented at the sub-junior Nationals to be held at Jaipur from October 8 to 14,” he pointed out.
ID cards
Mr. Choudary said no player would be permitted to play without the identity card issued by the Badminton Association of India. “Those players who do not possess the ID cards should approach BAI with the prescribed proforma form along with their original date of birth certificate. After verification, BAI would allot an ID number.”
BAI official said the senior National scheduled to be held from January 1 to 9, 2010, will be held from January 2 to 10, 2010.
During the tournament the BAI executive and special general body meeting will be held to discuss various issues. The Indian selection committee meeting will be held to select teams for the European and all England championship.
