Young Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar has drawn praise from Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla Han, who said the region’s golfing future looks bright with the emergence of talents like him.

Han said he was delighted to see the 21-year-old Bhullar come through for his maiden victory at the Indonesia President Invitational last month.

“It’s really exciting to see so many young players making a name for themselves on the Asian Tour,” said Han, a former Asian number one himself.

“There is a big group of talented players who are in their early 20s and with the numerous opportunities to compete at the highest level across the region, they are maturing quickly into top-class players,” he added.

Han said the rising stars on the circuit have the ability to make it big even at the Majors.

“I have every confidence that this group of players will be competing and challenging in the majors and world golf championships. It’s only a matter time before it happens,” he said.

“Guys like Jeev, Thongchai and Prayad are widely regarded now as world-class players but they are peaking rather late in their careers. It is through no fault of theirs as this is partly due to the limited opportunities that they had during their early professional years,” said Han.

Bhullar, a former Indian amateur number one, broke through with a two-stroke victory in Indonesia, a win which has propelled him to seventh place on the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit.
