Ngidi pleased with his performance

Lungi Ngidi has not had the best of seasons this year with a hamstring injury hampering him during the World Cup.

His presence in the South Africa-A squad was a litmus test for Ngidi to prove his fitness and form before the Test series against the senior Indian team.

Ngidi looked rusty in his first spell but soon found his rhythm and was back at his best. His sustained spell of aggression was the highlight of the morning session’s play on the second day. Ngidi picked up three wickets and was pleased with his performance.

“Yesterday was my first game back in a long time. Obviously, still a bit rusty but after that bowl, the confidence came back. This morning I was more of myself and it seems to come a lot better and that is the Ngidi I know. Hopefully that keeps coming out on this tour.

“It is good to be back in India and bowling. The wicket was decent and if you bowl in good areas you keep the batsmen under pressure. I am trying to bowl long spells and trying to get the legs ready as you got Test matches later on,” he said.

On Dale Steny’s absence: “We basically had him as a teacher. So anything he knew he gave it to us. We feel as young bowlers we are eager to play when you have a teacher like him. We have prepared very well for the series. His void will be difficult to fill. He is a great cricketer.”
