Chennai: Much like in his playing days, Sachin Tendulkar looked assured on the fast lane as he put a two-seater MRF Formula car through its paces here at the MMRT on Sunday.

The master-blaster is a self-confessed petrol head and seemed like a kid in a candy store as he pounded close to ten laps of the track, taking along a few friends of his in the two-seater formula car.

Speaking about his fun under the sun, Tendulkar said: “The experience here was fabulous. The last time I was here, it was for a BMW promotional event. This time it was with MRF and formula cars. I have always been a car enthusiast. So the first-hand experience to drive a formula car on this track was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed it. With time, my timing also kept getting better and better. I was used to driving with MRF (bat) on the field, but not on the race track. Both types of driving with MRF makes it interesting and exciting.”

Earlier, he caught up with Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time F-1 champion Michael Schumacher, who is competing in the MRF Challenge 2016.

Tendulkar and Schumacher Sr. go a long way. The German presented Tendulkar a Ferrari 360 Modena on behalf of FIAT back in 2002 after the Indian equalled Sir Donald Bradman’s record of 29 Test centuries.

“I have heard about him (Mick) through his father and our children are of the same age. I have seen his family photos. It’s always nice to have youngsters who want to go out and compete hard and play any sport to the best of their abilities. Mick is without doubt one of them. But I would say that he should not be constantly pressurised like this and should be left alone to enjoy his driving,” Tendulkar said.
