Shahaan hits the top ten bracket

Mumbai-born Shahaan Engineer of Fortec Motorsports came up with a strong show to climb seven places up to 10th in the drivers’ standings of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup championship at Oschersleben in Germany recently.

The Dubai-based 16-year-old, who is the youngest and the least experienced in this ultra-competitive championship, secured ninth, eighth and seventh place finishes in the three rounds of the season held last weekend.

The seventh place finish in the third and final race of the weekend, turned out to be Shahaan’s best finish of the 2012 campaign thus far. The youngster, who confirmed his front-running pace with the sixth fastest lap timing of 1:28.034s, is just nine points outside the top eight. “It’s been a fantastic weekend,” said Shahaan. “I learned a lot of racecraft, improving my result in each race, but most importantly for me, I was consistent and finished all three races,” he added.

Assen, in The Netherlands, will host the fourth race meeting of the season in the first week of August.
