Sachin, Chandrasekhar duo clinches title

Hyderabad’s Sachin Singh and his co-driver M. Chandrasekhar from Bangalore won the overall title in the JK Tyre FMSCI Indian National TSD Rally Championship’s second round at Ranchi on Sunday.

The event, the Wild Adventure Rally, had a close finish with Karthick Muruthi and Sankar Anand, the runners-up from Erode, just six seconds behind. Kolkata’s Anubhab De and Chanden Sen were third.

“We were in a good position right from the start but the last four TCs (Time Controls) were very tough,” said Sachin, who was competing on bikes for 15 years till 2009 before getting into four-wheelers, on Monday.

Meanwhile, Karthick Maruthi (36 points), who drove a Volkswagen Vento at Ranchi, grabbed the lead from Bangalore’s husband and wife duo of Satish Gopalakrishnan and Savera D’souza (35 points) after the second round of the six-round National championship.

Bangalore’s Chidanand Murthy and B.S. Sujith Kumar won the Pro Stock class.

Anubhab De & Chandan Sen (Kolkata, Maruti Esteem, 57s), 4. Jagmeet Gill & Yogesh Gupta (Chd/Kol, VW Vento, 59s), 5. Satish Gopalakrishnan & Savera D’Souza (Blr, Tata Indica Vista, 1:03s). Pro Stock class: 1. Chidanand Murthy & B.S. Sujith Kumar (Blr, Tata Indica Vista, 3.23s), 2. S. Gopalakrishnan & V. Sekar (VW Vento, 4:10s), 3. Philip Baklin & David Sharon (Chev. Cruz, 7:02s).
