There was a fascinating fusion of sounds at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) on Friday in the run-up to the first ever F1 race in India.
It was mind-blowing. For the first time, one experienced drum- beat and a colourful bhangra against the background of deafening screeching of tyres on the brand new track.
As much as cheering the drivers, the fans were busy, not missing a moment, capturing a frame or two of a zipping car in their small cameras.
“It was a really great experience,” said a young spectator. “The roar of the engines is incredible,” said a long-time cricket fan, bowled over by her F1 experience.
The overall positive mood was reflected in the paddock zone. Followers of the sport, who had access to the area, and large number of Indian scribes, were seen chasing their favourite stars with requests for photographs, autographs and a byte.
The entire Red Bull team was enthusiastic about the new place. It showed in the way the crew members were working – fine-tuning the cars to meet the expectations of its two drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, after first practice session.
