MOCA Off-Roaders brought great cheer to the home crowd by gaining a slight edge over defending champions Gerrari Off-Roaders-A from Chandigarh after six stages in the JK Tyre Orange 4x4 Fury here on Monday.

Gurmeet Singh (co-driver Gurpratap Sandhu) and Kabir Waraich (Yuvraj Singh Tiwana) battled the waters and slush on in the fourth stage titled ‘Bijari on the Swamp’ on Sunday night, and so did the MOCA men.

The other teams in fray could not come anywhere close to them. Obviously, that strengthened the positions of both the team on the table.

Pebble-strewn

Going into Monday’s stages, the Gerrari-A men knew it was not going to be easy on a tight and tricky pebble-strewn terrain.

And with both cars starting at the same point but from different directions in the fifth stage (Play our own Game), Kabir decided to tread the difficult path. The team completed it in quick time with no penalties to his name on the scoring chart.

But the MOCA team, consisting of Aditya Mei (co-driver Chow Sujeewan Choutang) and Chow Ujjal Namshum (co-driver Chow Ingieng Mein) fell short of expectations and finished fifth. That brought good news to the Gerrari team as they shot into the lead yet again.

But the MOCA men upstaged them in the day’s second stage (Beat the Baton), which was battled on the river bed.

Wading through and climbing up was not an easy task but the local favourite made it look easy all the way. Gerrari had to be rest content for the second spot.

With only a five-point edge, the final day is expected to go down the wire. Gurmeet and Kabir sounded confident of keeping the title. “We have planned our strategies well and our vehicles have not let us down,” said the Gerrari men.
