Vijay Mallya’s arrest and his subsequent release on bail in London on Tuesday has complicated things for the Federation of Motor Sport Clubs of India (FMSCI), which he represents at the FIA, the world governing body for motorsports.

The FMSCI will meet next week to deliberate the future course of action following Tuesday’s developments.

Mallya has been attending FIA World Motor Sport Council meetings FMSCI’s behalf through video conferencing from the U.K.

Speaking to The Hindu , FMSCI president Akbar Ebrahim said: “We’ve just got the information of his arrest and bail, so we will have a meeting next week and seek legal opinion on how to go about it.”

Ebrahim however added that removing Mallya would not be a straightforward process. “His role is for a fixed term, and we can’t nominate anyone else till September this year when the FIA elections happen,” Ebrahim said.

Mallya’s role as the honorary chairman of the FMSCI was not extended following its elections in December 2016.
