Jagat Nanjappa in the lead

Quepem: Veteran rallyist Jagat Nanjappa and co-driver Chetan Changappa moved into the top spot of the Isuzu Rainforest Challenge 2O18 off road event here on Thursday.

At the completion of 17 stages on the third day, Jagat, who was second at the end of the ninth stage, made his experience count and left his younger competitors behind.

The third day’s proceedings included the night stage and water challenge. The eight special stages presented varying degrees of difficulty and tested the skill and mental toughness of the drivers.

Jagat moved into the lead by the 13th stage in which he scored a perfect 100 points and did well in the tough night stage to maintain his lead. Jagat tallied 1,261 points to head the table.

Defending champion Gurmeet Virdi (co-driver Kirpal Singh Jung) climbed to the second spot from third with 1,191 points. He also scored a perfect 100 in the 14th stage.

Sanbir Singh Dhaliwal of Chandigarh (co-driver Gurpratab Singh Sandhu), who led till the ninth stage, slipped to sixth after a poor show between the ninth and 13 stages. However, Sanbir had a remarkable outing on the 16th stage where he garnered 100 points and sneaked to third with 1,087 points.

Mervyn Lim (co-driver Alex Tan) of Mumbai was fourth with 1,064 points. Arunachal Pradesh’s Chow Ujjal Namshum (co-driver Ingpeng Mein) moved to fifth spot with 1,054 points.

Goa’s Cedrik Jordan DaSilva (co-driver Floyd Preston) made an entry into the top-six with a good show in the night stages. He has 1,042 points and pushed Dr. Chaitanya Challa (co-driver Shabarish Jagarapu) to the seventh spot with 992 points.
