Chennai-based Aditya Patel drove to victory from pole position in the second race of the seventh round of the Scirocco R-Cup, here on Sunday.

Patel, who had finished a disappointing eighth in the first race on Saturday, held off tough challenges from Daniel Lloyd and Moritz Ostereich to hold on to his advantage.

The Indian driver — in overall fifth place with 289 points — gained pole for race two by virtue of the reverse grid system and had to battle wet conditions to land his first victory of 2011.

“It was a nail-biting race. I can't remember the last time I had to fight for the lead like that. With one race to go, my aim is to finish in the top three in the championship,” Patel said.

The last round of the championship is scheduled for October 21-22 at Hockenheim.
