Chennai lad Saran Vikram (Mars Racing) and Parth Ghorpade were the stand-out drivers on Race Day 2 (Round 5) of the Volkswagen JK Tyre National Racing Championship at the Madras Motor Race Track, Irungattukottai on Sunday.
Vikram finished first in both races of the Formula LGB Rolon category, virtually sealing his Championship Driver title in the category while Ghorpade finished first in the first race and second in the second of the Volkswagen Polo Cup.
Vikram is now on 53 points, 17 ahead of 16-year-old Vikas Anand (36 points).
The other highlight of the day was TVS Girling's Ameya Walavalkar winning back-to-back races in the Formula Swift Race. With the wins, Ameya Walavalkar moved into second spot in the overall standings with 63 points but Ajay Kini continues to lead the table with 72 points.
In the first race of the Polo Cup, Parth Ghorpade won with a slender margin — just 0.481 seconds ahead of Mumbai's Sahil Shelar (25:13.619).
Ghorpade's performance over the weekend took his tally to 359 points, pushing Sailesh Bolisetti (333) to second place.
Bolisetti completed a miserable weekend, when an under steer problem and wrong selection of tyres resulted in the league leader losing ground in both the Polo Cup and the Super Saloon categories.
In the second race of the Saloon cars section, Siddarth Kishore displayed great skill in winning the race.
In the Indian Junior Touring Class (IJTC) it was B. Balavijay (Team Motor Rev India) who notched up his second win of the weekend very comfortably.
